Delhi and Beyond

When Lorraine asked me if I would like to join them for the weekend in  Delhi and surrounding area a few weeks ago I jumped at the chance because at that point  I was a bit unsure as to how I was going to fill my weekends ..and here we are, I have been and gone and done it !!!! Now I am definitely on the count down. I only have 13 more contact days with all my wee tots. Unbelievable .
Delhi is around 4 hrs. North West of Madurai and unfortunately it is not a direct flight , you have one stop over to deposit  and pick up passengers but it only takes 20 mins or so.
My day time temp. Down here at the moment is 31-33 deg.so as you can imagine I felt the difference when I arrived in Delhi and it was only 14 deg. I had been warned though so had on trainers , socks and a thick cardigan. Infact there was a spot of rain on Friday evening .

Yes yes I know it's just a high rise block , but it's so different from Madurai I just had to take it .
This one is for Graeme McNaull, you could survive in Delhi !
We had an all you can eat dinner in here which was very tasty. When we came out of the restaurant we found this scene.
A wedding that was taking place somewhere in the Mall. This was all happening at around 9.30 pm. I have no idea where the bride is at this point.
The procession passed us by and we
Cake decorating demonstrations
Very pretty.
So that was Friday night , we planned an early start so it was back to the Bennett's to pack a  bag for the journey south .
I got kind of carried away chatting on the journey so photos are a bit thin on the ground . When Phil arrives we will  be back up this direction so I will take more then.
We did have a coffee stop and found these in the shop next door .
£3.50 a pair , all we need to do now is convince Alan that it will be a good idea to stop again and get some more .
This big guy had had enough and was making a bid for freedom crossing between carriage ways with his owner in hot pursuit on a motor bike .

Further up the road , a working camel.
And some real poverty by the side of the road .
Our destination for the night
I was an odd place really, with a kind of theme park in the grounds .
A puppet show taking place as we passed .
This is one of two functions that they were preparing for in the grounds.
See what I mean about the theme park .
So we pottered about here then made our way to the craft stalls which were lovely and the great thing was that the goods were all fixed price so no haggling necessary. We all made some interesting purchases.
This man was selling bangles and what he is doing here is altering the size using a hot rod and coals .

We had booked a traditional Rajasthani meal .
We are not really smiling here we are grimacing at firstly the quantity of food and secondly the taste of it. The majority of it was bitter and harsh, certainly not to our taste, but they insisted on piling it on and just for good measure dolloped some sweet rice mixture in amongst it all ! All part of the Indian experience .
We finished off the evening watching what we think was a combined 25 th wedding Anniversary / wedding party. It was completely
cheesy and over the top but gave us something to talk about.
If this had happened at home the sound police would have been straight round . It was Blaring music ! No alcohol though..
So that pretty much was Saturday , never a dull moment .
Will do a separate blog for Sunday.

  1. Elephants and Camels, i always see them walking along George street..! Another good blog, i would have been happy with the McDonalds but i suspect that they would have been Big Curry Mac's, and a Curry Meat Feast pizza...

  3. The mini 'theme park' looked a bit full of kitsch - maybe that's why the elephant did a runner (only joking!). Delhi looks quite like many big cities though. Wonder if Domino's Delhi do 2 for Tuesdays? x
