Odds and ends

Some of the other girls invited me to lunch at what they call their " host mother's " house. She is an Indian lady called Jothy. She is employed by one of the other volunteer projects. She lives with and cares for her 93 yr. old (an approximation ) mother. Jothy has some volunteers living with her but those that don't , the ones I know go to her for lunch and dinner.
What a specimen ! Saw him en route.
This is the area you walk through to get to Jothy's which I was not altogether comfortable about.
Very run down and poor.
This is Grace on the left.
The main room .
The kitchen where my lunch was cooked !
And lunch with the others
We ate on the floor in the main room, and it was with some trepidation that. I ate , but the girls all have had nothing but praise for Jothys cooking , and she didn't disappoint . It was very tasty and no the tummy didn't object later either .
It was very interesting to see the comparison between the different projects standard of accommodation . I am very glad to be where I am because I really thnk I would have struggled to stay living under the conditions some of the girls are living under though the majority are very young so I suppose their expectations are not as great as mine .
They also have a curfew of 9.30 pm. and all stick to it .

The dining area .

Now onto hair cutting at the orphanage .
The children were taken out a few at a time to be shaved , helps keep the lice down .

There were many tears during this exercise , but no bleeding heads thankfully.

Now I pass many interesting  situations on my daily auto drive to work, it's an adventure every day.
I pass this corner every morning and have only just noticed this
Difficult to make out but it is a piece of rope tied to a tree and the black end is actually smoldering. I would have missed it completely had it not been for a man holding it and lighting a cigarette ! Yes it's a cigarette lighter right next to the coffee stand . Every day since I have watched it reduce in length so will try and get in the whole scene next time , not so easy whilst whizzing past in my auto .

Sunday morning equivelant of our car boot sales .
This bed was being fixed ..nothing goes to waste.
We had to "walk" up this road as there are no pavements.

This Granny with her twin granddaughters sat and fussed over these two and when the temperature dropped to about 24 deg. One got the hat on and the other the jumper while we sat sweating opposite them .
Then there was this old guy that I just thought looked worthy of a picture

Lastly I took this the other day of Pritchin being fed by one of the other nurses which was a real joy to see. He now stands up excitedly and takes the food like all the others  and moves round the cot to try and sneak in another mouthful.
Now I need to find another child to help along the way .

I flew to Delhi yesterday and am going on a mystery tour courtesy of the Bennett's so who knows what the next entry will be !
