All on a Saturday

I am starting  Saturday with this wretched thing!
That is the door stop that is responsible for all the bumps and bruises on the tops of my feet .I could forgive it if it worked but It doesn't and it really hurts when I walk into it .

Next up I heard bells tinkling , ran to the verandah and saw this
And off they went up "my street ".
Next it was an auto into town to meet Marion to go to the temple via the tailors market as it is aptly called.
This is one magnificent temple with 5 towers all as ornate as each other. The first thing you do is hand over your shoes and in my case my camera and I pad ,my 2 forms of picture taking . The rules have been changed and now no cameras are allowed except phone cameras for which you pay 50p. So I will have to wait until Lorraine and Alan come down in 2 weeks time and go again because the pictures should be worth . Instead here are a few snaps of our day.
Marion loves the coconut milk ,I am not a great fan but had some as well anyway and at least it's sterile !
"The Chemist " where I bought more itchy head shampoo although they haven't got me yet !
And from his medicine chest ! I also bought some antihistamine tablets for 45p for 10 tabs.
The Mosquitos are dreadful here. They usually prefer Phil to me but since he isn't here I seem to be a tasty bite , they are huge bites as well.

We then found a place for lunch , I forgot to take pics. of the front shop but I was bursting , asked where the toilets were and was told it was for staff only , I think my face said it all and then he said to go and use it .
I had to walk through the "kitchen area "
And into this not nice at all courtyard , the silver panel in the next picture is the toilet door.
It was at least "a western toilet " a normal toilet to you and me !
You really have to not look at the filth roundabout and get on with it !

The food was served on a banana leaf again a wee pot of onion and yoghurt a wee pot of something else cold and saucy and 2 quite rubbery breads but the name escapes right now.Very tasty it was to. After we finished we were sitting chatting when we noticed people gathering around us. The owner then came over and motioned us to go. You don't hang about in these places. Since you use your ( right )hand only they provide sinks near that kitchen area to wash your hand / hands after.
The bill, a grand total of 32p each, and once again since it is 9 hrs.since I ate it I guess I have been spared a dodgy tummy again.

This was our last port of call before home . A big store called " pothys" said like potty which is how I remember it! This was the sari floor. Honestly ladies reading this it is absolutely amazing . You could spend hours browsing , but we were here for a different reason.

I have started gathering up quantities of nappies , creams powder wipes etc. it's just great knowing I have so much to spend on these essentials .
Every day I am going to the ATM to withdraw the maximum I can  £200 although today it would only give me £100 so I will try again tomorrow as it will be £1,200 for 3 months supply of milk.
For those of you who have asked about how to help take a look on the Grace Kennett web site . Elizabeth the sister said you can donate that way . It is a very reliable institution and the money will go directly to the children .

That was a busy hot sticky day again so it was good to come back here for a coffee and a chat with the 2 new girls. Lakschman came out of his kitchen with some jam tarts that he had freshly made so altogether  a happier Saturday than last Saturday.

  2. Love the outfits, beautiful colours. Vit B complex, taken daily, is said to repel Mosquitos.. Certainly works for me - our Consultant, Dr Brettle, used to say it was the smell of yeast that they don't like.

  3. You are amazing - keep dodging the dodgy tummy by whatever means. My life seems a trifle boring ... but I'm not sure an elephant meandering down Crofthead Road would make that much of a difference !! ??

  4. I think I might need to start increasing my beer consumption to take on extra yeast, those mosis sound dangerous. Loved the elephant encounter
