Madurai at last via Bangalore andChennai

Roof terrace
Onion seller

Well here goes ! 24 hrs, no sleep and several flights later I have arrived at my home for the next 8 weeks and 4 days.
I was met by Anita and her husband Lakshmi ( I think ) a more welcoming and friendly couple you could not find  which helped fend off the tears that were well and truly emerging at that point !

The drive back to their house was hairy to say the least but for anyone who has been to Egypt and experienced their style of driving and road chaos street food stalls etc.etc. you get the picture! It was home time for the school children as well which added an exta dimension to the mayhem.
First impressions of my room for the duration .... Well I had to put a brave face on it but " oh good lord what have I done )I thought .anyway after unpacking my bag and having the most tasty meal I feel a lot happier about life.

I am on the top floor ( all to myself ) with a bathroom shower and a rooftop balcony, but I have the use of the family home as well.Laksmi is a trained pastry chef and cook and has spent many years working overseas , he made sourdough bread all for me tonight. He runs his own food business which he prepares in his purpose built kitchen next to my room on the terrace. I maybe one of the few people that comes back from India heavier than they went out.

My Room
By the way that tennis racquet looking thing is an electronic mosquito zapper.

So tomorrow starts with my first visit to the orphanage ,seemingly there are 5 under 3 month old babies 5 between 3 months and a year, I can't remember the others but I will fill you in when I find out. My host Anita is going to take me to the shops and tailors tomorrow as I think I will have a few clothes run up to wear now that are more suitable for this heat which incidentally was 33% today.
Now to contemplate sleep with all the horns tooting and the dogs barking .

  10. I love the illustrated stories and it helps us to see what you are experiencing. You might ask Kumar to sit back to front on your next trip so we can see his face - sounds as if facing the wrong direction might improve the driving..

It looks just like Egypt and thank goodness we dont have smellovision for these pictures! Keep up the stories and the descriptions of everything , its really good -;)xx
